Basti’s is celebrating their 10th year anniversary today and they have brewed up something special.
It’s 50% off for their ten most popular menu items, which includes the following: cappuccino (₱33), brewed coffee (₱23), cappuccino float (₱53), mocha shake (₱53), oreo shake (₱45), carrot cake (₱45), bolognese (₱56), pinoy pizzas (₱75), carroza (₱60), and banana muffin (₱23).
Customers can also get a big slice of their limited edition creamy moist choco monster caramel cake for only ₱199. I’ve seen this beast and it’s huge! One slice is probably good for three to four persons. Read the rest of this entry »
Kangaroo Cafe

Didn’t even take time to notice the aroma. Not that full bodied but it has a nice sweet taste to it. Only notice it after it has cooled a bit. Busy reading about how to solve a folder with a flashing question mark.
Will do better to notice next time.
Euro Baker [u]
2009/07/11
The krema had a cinnamon-y flavor to it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t resist taking a bite out of the free cupcake. It messed up my taste buds.
However, I think the espresso is pretty good (and only for 50 pesos.) Will be back soon to try out their other coffee and their eat-all-you-can cakes.
Update:
The espresso I drank was at ₱65, not ₱50. The ₱50 espresso is Euro Baker’s own roast or blend.
By the way, a comment pointed out that Euro Baker has a bread and egg buffet. They have different kinds of bread and you can have your egg prepared any which way you want. The buffet is available everyday, from 10AM to 12PM and from 6PM to 8PM.
Cake buffet is available anytime everyday. Comes with a free cup of coffee.
Wi-Fi is available. Just ask for the password from their waitstaff. They change the password every week.
Gold Cup Coffee Shop [u2]
2009/07/09
There’s a new coffee shop in Davao.
Gold Cup Coffee Shop is kind of secluded; I wouldn’t have known that it existed if it weren’t for the big billboard they put up along street.
I found the place in an alcove, beside a hairdresser’s salon. I wasn’t really sure that they were already open for business. I grabbed the door handle and I cautiously poked my head inside.
I asked a waitstaff if they were already open. He said they were and he welcomed me in. I then asked the question some people usually ask first when going into a new cafe: Is there Wi-Fi?
Nope.
Dang.
I was about to do a slow retreat back outside but I stopped. I did another look around the cafe. The interior looked nice and cozy, with comfortable-looking armchairs and couches. The lighting threw a warm glow that made the place more inviting.
I liked the place enough that I decided to give their coffee a try.
I had my usual fare: a cup of cafe americano (reasonably priced at ₱55).
The barrista handed me my my cup of americano. He then scooted outside to look for change.
I sat down on the couch nearest the counter and let my coffee cool down a bit.
The coffee had a woody aroma, and when I took a sip, I tasted a mild lychee-like flavor. It did have a bit of slight aftertaste. But overall, it was good cup of coffee.
When the barrista got back I asked him where they sourced their beans from. He said they got it from abroad and was an “Italian blend”.
They’re using a La Spaziale espresso machine and also have a machine for preparing low-fat beverages or shakes.
My first impression was “Gold Cup Coffee Shop” sounded a bit cheesy, but first impressions rarely last. I like the interior and their americano was good. I recommend that you give this new coffee shop a try.
They just opened for business yesterday and there might still be some hiccups.
Again, no Wi-Fi yet. They’re still waiting for Globe. But they said they’ll have Wi-Fi up and running by next week.
Oh. I also found out that I was their first customer. First!
Gold Cup Coffee Shop is a nice addition to our selection of coffee shops here in Davao especially for those who feel they need a bit of alone time.
Gold Cup Coffee Shop is located along E. Jacinto Extension. Just look for the Minute Burger stand.
Again, I recommend you try the place out. I’m definitely going back there soon.
Update:
I forgot to mention that they open 8AM and they serve breakfast. They close midnight but they have plans of staying open til 2AM during the weekend.
Not sure if they are open Sundays.
Update 2:

An earthy-herb-like aroma but I’m not sure if the cup is imparting this unusual smell.
Carbony taste with a lingering bitter finish.

Nice gold crema which dissipated after a few minutes. Slight floral aroma. Nicely mellow with some earthiness. Smoky aftertaste.
